Blue House Energy Unveils Online Energy Efficiency Training June 11 2013
Halifax, NS – June 11, 2013 – Blue House Energy (BHE) today launched its online energy efficiency training platform for trades people, renovators and contractors, offering convenience and cost-savings in a state-of-the-art education program.
BHE’s online courses teach a foundation in building science, an understanding of the house-as-a-system and the impact of energy efficiency upgrades on existing and new housing. The online courses are designed for people working in the field who want to improve their energy efficiency knowledge without losing time from their jobs.
“Successful energy-saving retrofits require a clear understanding of building science,” said Shawna Henderson, CEO of Blue House Energy. “The new building and energy codes are pushing trades people, contractors, renovators and energy advisors to learn more about building science and good practice, simply to stay in the game and answer questions from customers. In fact, some jurisdictions are now requiring formal training in order to be trade partners for energy efficiency incentive programs.”
The BHE system allows busy trades people and contractors to receive training in this new facet of construction and renovation. It is low cost compared to classroom-based instruction, easy to access, and doesn't take crews off job sites. The courses are graphically rich, simple to understand and easily accessible. They will change and inform the way users think about the building envelope and energy efficiency.
“We’re doing something that has not been on the market to date, something that could become the basis for a national certification program,” said Hal Richman, COO of Blue House Energy.
BHE has developed the programs with Intelliware Development Inc., a Toronto firm in business since 1990 that has proven experience in providing large-scale on-line learning environments. BHE has also engaged a leading team of energy efficiency specialists, editors, graphic designers, web- learning specialists, project managers and sales professionals in Halifax supporting the courses.
Courses can be taken separately or as a BHE certificate program. All courses and certificates of successful completion are available for registration through Blue House Energy website https://bluehouseenergy.com. Additional certificates for Continuing Education credit can be taken through Humber College.
